James Delaney has served as an amazing creative force in the Parks Division. Recently, James repurposed a stump and trunk in the back of Washington Park into a beautifully carved and painted wishing well. James included some of his peers for the final touches and the result is an eye-catching artistic installation for park patrons of all ages to enjoy. Daily, we receive compliments for this additional feature in the Park. Bravo James for another fantastic creation that exceeds our expectations! (From your friends in Parks and Recreation)
Kudos Fred Ghilain - I would like to have Fred Ghilain recognized for his leadership and hard work in getting the HVAC system fixed on a fastrack schedule despite the system being old and parts not available in the State, and he had make them work with our old unit. (Syed Murtuza)
Kudos Alyssa Diaz! You have hit the ground running and are such a great addition to the City Manager's office! Welcome and great job! (Sonya Morrison, HR Director)
Thank you Nicole Houghton! You are a wonderful asset to the City! You get involved in so many things that have City-wide impacts (the Safety Committee and ACE Employee engagement team, and a regular contributor to the monthly employee newsletter). Thank you! (Sonya Morrison, HR Director)
Great job Mirene Benitez! - Thank you Mirene for all your hard work over the last few months – everything COVID-related, and keeping up with your own work too. Long hours, and I appreciate everything you have done! Thank you!!! (Sonya Morrison, HR Director)
I am about to close a transaction that required a prior sewer lateral inspection, something in which David Cardona participates. There were challenges and delays (not caused by the City) and David truly cared and stepped in to provide service rarely seen in private or public entities. He went so out of his way to make what we needed happen and was more responsive than most people around. I know he must be that way with everything he does and everyone with whom he interacts. (Resident)
I'd like to acknowledge Mr Voong for his work in the Easton in improving the sidewalks, to make it more pleasant and safe to walk on. He was also the project manager for the pedestrian light project on Broadway. He has been diligent and responsive in the process. He was willing to meet with a constituent out in the field, and with merchants as well, to answer questions. He is a BurlinGEM (Goes the Extra Mile) (Resident)
Kudos HR Team - I wanted to send you a little note before I go to say how thankful I am for all of you. I was around when the HR Department didn't have near the level of organization and follow-through that it does now. You all have really turned it around, and it shows. I know you have put up with a lot this last year, and I want you to know, in case you don't hear it enough: EVERY ONE OF YOU IS AWESOME!!! Thank you for all you do for us!
Kudos Jesus Barajas and Tony Urena - a crew of two men trimmed my Magnolia tree. They did an outstanding job of pruning my tree. They were very courteous and cleaned up nicely. I have been a garden volunteer at FILOLI for 15 years. I do have some knowledge of trees and plants. I wish I had been home when they finished. Please thank them for taking such good care of my Magnolia tree. (Judy D - citizen)
Kudos -Allen Meadows and Andrew Mukacha - We had flooding at our house on Rivera, and a city employee came by, diagnosed the issue from a blocked city storm drain, and removed the mesh/cover that was blocking it. As a result, the runoff from the city no longer flooded my house. I really appreciate it. I was up for 12 hours trying to divert water away from my house, and he figured out the source and removed it. (Ryan C - citizen)
Well done Edith Pham! - I just wanted to share that Edith is extremely helpful and thorough with recruitments. She does everything with a smile and is great to work with. She makes the process easy and it is appreciated. (Tommy McMahon, Library Adult Services Manager)
Well done street sweeper! - The Street Sweeper on Carmelita is much appreciated. He does an outstanding job in her neighborhood especially during the storms. She is grateful for his smiling attitude and that he waves and honks when passing by. (Gayle E - citizen)
Kudos Kris Sojda! - Last month I spoke to an employee in the Public Works Corporate Yard Department because my tap water was brown. Kris took down my contact information and got back to me in 10 minutes with an explanation of why the water was discolored. City workers had cleaned out a main water pipe near my home. Kris told me to run the water in my tub and tap for a few minutes and the water should clear up. It worked!!!!! I'm grateful for his help and think he did a great job informing me right away. (Constance Q - resident)
Public Works employee - The other day I sent an email, to the general email account for Public Works, regarding a missing sewer clean-out cover in the easement behind my property. Within two hours of my email, PW dispatched one of their field members. While I did not catch his name, he provided wonderful customer service. Thank you to the City of Burlingame for continuing to provide top notch public services in a timely and friendly manner. Yet another item that is high on my list of reasons I enjoy living in our fair city. (Dean P - resident)
Great job Gina Borba and Bob Disco! - Oh Gina that news MADE MY DAY!!! My mom would be thrilled if she were alive!!! I will let you know when it is curbside, and THANK YOU AND BOB so so so much! (Sue S - resident)
Parks Employees rock! - I live close to Washington Park and frequently enjoy walking through the park. Your employees are always friendly and courteous, saying "good morning" when we meet, and they do a wonderful job maintaining the grounds, always taking care of litter, and making our parks a natural resource that refreshes the spirit. Thank you all for your hard work. (Jane D - resident)
Street Sweepers rock! - It is great to see a person who takes such pride in his work. Such is the case with our street sweeper. We live on Cabrillo Ave. Please thank him for us. (Catharina M - resident)
Kristine Herbert (citizen kudos) - I just wanted to let you know we had a great party! Thank you for your help with the reservation, and especially for walking me along the pathway to get to the area. All the guests loved the spot, as it felt very private. The kids had a great time with the open grassy areas, the bounce house, and the basketball courts nearby. That is the perfect spot for a party! I appreciate how quickly you replied to all of my emails, and were so friendly every time we communicated!
Awesome work Kelly Grima! - Shout out to Kelly Grima, Children's Librarian. She is unflappable, patient and kind. She is wonderful with patrons, and as a colleague I value her professional experience. She is always willing to listen to ideas and make constructive suggestions on how to make them better, or just simply explain how to do a task that is new to me. I really appreciate her. (Jennifer Bousquet, Children's Librarian)
Rick Horne and Team (from Broadway Burlingame Business Improvement District) - "I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the great work you and your team have done for Broadway. The alleyway was completely pressure washed and also the sidewalks. It looks fantastic and also the parking spot that was opened up between ristorante Rocca and Il piccolo looks great."
Kudos to Jesus Reyna - We are so thankful that Jesus is part of the Burlingame family. He has the greatest patience, most positive attitude and quickest attention to even the most menial IT matters. Thank you, Jesus, for keeping our IT infrastructure safe and running so that we can remain efficient in our semi-remote work situations. -Mirene and Noche
Just wanted to take a moment to thank Public works staff for continually offering their expertise and equipment to help our Parks staff with varying tasks. Recently, Rick Horne, Matt Dabney and Jim McIntyre have helped Parks staff on multiple occasions. Whether its collaborating on a See Click Fix concern from a resident, lending equipment to us or taking ownership of an issue affecting the service we provide, these dedicated employees are knowledgeable, responsive and very willing to help. Hats off to these gentlemen for their dedicated service. We appreciate you! (Rich Holtz, Park Supervisor
Kudos Oscar Herrera - I wanted to give a shout out to Oscar Herrera for always being positive, patient, and super helpful with all Tyler inquiries! Like I have stated before, I am super glad that Oscar is a fellow City staff member that helps us traverse the myriad of Tyler nuances! (from Lilly Cifuentes)
Kudos Facilities Team! - I am surprised that our Facilities Maintenance Team hasn't been recognized for all efforts to make all of our building safe. I can surely say that they have done a great job here at City Hall from repairing the stairway, fixing leaks to managing our circulating air and temperature controls. I have seen Brian, Pedro and Jonathan at City Hall, Library and the Fire Stations. (Victor Voong)
Kudos Mark Falcone - I would like to recognize the gentleman who operates the leaf and debris sweeper that maintains Marin Drive for his dedicated and conscientious service to our neighborhood. The latest storm left an inordinate amount of leaves in most sections of our community. I feel this employee should be lauded for the manner in which he consistently operates this large device, especially since there are more parked vehicles on our street as well as many others. Thank you. (Jim E.)
Parks Staff - Thanks to Parks Staff for coming out to the property (California Dr) today and doing such a nice job. Congratulations on a job well done today! (Judy W.)
Street Sweeper - Not sure if the person running the street sweeper down Occidental will ever see this, but I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the extra effort that you are putting in this morning. Foot by foot this operator is really making sure the street is spotless and there is a LOT of debris as I'm sure anyone could guess. Anyhow, your work was noticed and appreciated! (Jonathan S.)
Parks and Rec Kudos for Adult Softball - I tell college friends who live elsewhere in the US about this league and they all ask what it's like to live in Mayberry... We Burlingamers (and Millbrae / San Mateo who repped teams this time!) are all very lucky to live in such a community with such a robust and involved Parks & Rec. Thank for all your hard work. It's a great thing that's been created here...
Shout Out to weekend Parks Staff for tidy restrooms - My husband and I went on a walk today and stopped by Cuernavaca Park. The restroom was so tidy! It sparked joy! I just wanted to acknowledge the janitorial staff. (Andrea)
Gina Borba - I wanted to recognize Gina Borba from the Parks & Rec department. Last fall, two of our street trees were removed for safety reasons, as we live right across the street from Pershing Park. Even though we were still in the middle of the pandemic, Gina was incredibly helpful in sending us an initial project letter, and then corresponding via email during the whole project. Gina kept us in the loop on target timing for the stump grinding for the trees that were removed and helped provide detailed and thorough information on options for the tree replacements. (Rachel B.)
Gratitude to the BPD for your recent response to a 911 call to our home. Your team responded quickly to a volatile situation and handled it in a professional, thorough and caring manner. From their initial response, to their follow up the next day, their care for the safety and well-being of all was immediately apparent.
We are truly grateful to Corporal Garrett Pene, Officers Jeff Schoenstein, Richard Scheno, Dan Forbes, Kimberly Marin, and Dispatchers Ena Perez and BJ Worden. We are particularly grateful to Officer Jeff Schoenstein for going above and beyond, even calling us the next day to check in. Thank you!
